The Musical Check out this link to find out more about the musical based on my best selling novel Behind the Bedroom Wall! This musical was written with my two good friends, Laurie Adams and Joan Burr, both teachers in Glastonbury, Connecticut. We are now in the process of "workshopping" it at the University of Connecticut Department of Dramatic Arts. What does that mean? It means that the Artistic Director at the Connecticut Repertory Theatre has optioned our script in order to workshop it with both student and equity actors. Over the period of one to two intensive weeks, these actors and the artistic director will run through the script numerous times, giving feedback to the writers in order to improve it. Every night, the writers will revise the script for the actors to read the next day. I expect this will be an exciting and intense period of time. If the play is deemed successful, it could go on to another round of workshopping or even be picked up to be produced! Here is a short summary of what we're doing as we do it -- I'll try to keep this updated! Spring 2007 - Initial meeting with Gary English, AD of DDA at UConn Fall 2007 - Meeting of all co-collaborators and Zita Christian (chronicler) with Gary to review the script and determine the best course for a rewrite Fall 2007 - The three collaborators take a night in a motel with computers and piano keyboard for an intensive revising session January 2008 - Another meeting with Gary to go over the newest revision - Gary gives us more ideas for another revision - great ideas of course! :-) February 2008 - Laurie, Joan and I get together for another run through and revision -- we are REALLY excited about this revision! February 2008 - Another meeting with Gary... He really likes the revision and says we still need to work on the ending a bit. We are thrilled with his enthusiasm and feedback. We meet at the start of a good ol' New England snow storm, but the treacherous driving conditions don't stop us from celebrating with some good pasta dishes on the way home. :-) February 2008 - We've done another run through of the script, actually making even more changes than were asked of us... hopefully we didn't mess up stuff that was not broken... Trying to get some "final" edits done before sending it off to Gary once again, but Joan and Laura are sick with the flu... yuck!!! April 2008 - Two of us headed off to Broadway in New York City with Gary to audition actresses for the two mother roles. It was absolutely thrilling and fascinating! April 2008 - We gathered at UConn with the director, music director, stage manager, and managing director to review the workshop schedule. Only a couple of weeks away...
